Spam Comments

Unfortunately spam comments is a problem that every website with a comments option in place have to resolve. Until now, Dountsis.com was residing in using the WordPress plugin “Did you pass math?” in order to block spam bots. However, I was getting complains that people were unable to submit legitimate comments as they were told that no question was asked and the site was expecting an answer.

Therefore, I had to look for an alternative way to block spam and drop the use of the particular plugin. The solution seems to be the WP-SpamFree plugin. It  eliminates comment spam, including trackback and pingback spam. It works without CAPTCHA’s, challenge questions, or other inconvenience to the site visitors.

Most of the spam hitting web sites originates from bots. Few bots can process JavaScript (JS). Few bots can process cookies. Fewer still, can handle both. In a nutshell, WP-SpamFree plugin uses a dynamic combo of JavaScript and cookies to weed out the humans from spambots, preventing 99%+ of automated spam from ever getting to a web site. Usually, the simpler solutions are the best ones and this plugin proves the case for that…
