Firefox Extensions
The list with the available extentsions for Firefox over in Mozilla Update is so vast that may prove quite a challenge to identify the essential ones. Hence, I have compiled a list with all the Firefox add-ons that I feel that stand out.
- All-in-One Sidebar: A sidebar control, inspired by Opera’s. It lets you quickly switch between sidebars, view dialog windows such as downloads, extensions, and more in the sidebar, or view source or websites in the sidebar. It includes a slide-out button and a toolbar, all of which can be extensively customized.
- adBlock: Once installed, it’s a snap to filter elements at their source-address. Just right-click: Adblock: done. Filters use either the wildcard character (*) or full Regular Expression syntax. Hit the status-element and see what has or hasn’t been blocked. For further information on how you can fine tune your adblock installation visit my guide.
- Linkification: Surrounds plain text URLs with anchor tags. You simply click on a text url and you will be transferred to this url without having to copy it to the address bar.
- IEView: Adds “View page in Internet Explorer” links to the content and link context menu. Handy for previewing pages in IE, loading up IE-only pages when you run across them in Mozilla, etc.
- BugMeNot: Bypasses compulsory web registration via Firefox’s right-click context menu. Compatible with Mozilla and current Firefox releases.
- Tab Mix Plus: Enhances Firefox’s tab browsing capabilities. It includes such features as duplicating tabs, controlling tab focus, tab clicking options, undo closed tabs and windows, plus much more. It also includes a full-featured session manager with crash recovery that can save and restore combinations of opened tabs and windows.
- Flashblock: The majority of the ads on the web nowadays are flash-based. If you want to block them then the easiest is to block the iFrame in which they are placed with adBlock. However, you may come across some flash ads that it is almost impossible to locate the iFrame. This extension solves the problem by replacing Flash objects with a button you can click to view them.
- lget: Allows you to initiate a direct download of a file given a url from the FireFox File Menu by selecting New Download.
- DownTHEMall!: Filters the extensions of all the links present in a page and download the selected files in just a click!
- Download Manager Tweak: A modification of the Firefox download manager that changes its appearance and allows it to be opened in a separate window, a new tab, or the sidebar.
- GMail Notifier: If you have a GMail account then this extension is made for you. It displays a notifier on the status bar with the number of new e-mails you have on your GMail inbox and allows you to access them with one mouse click.
- TinyUrl: It brings the http://tinyurl.com functionality into your browser. It takes a long URL as input, and gives you a short URL to use in it’s place.
- Colorzilla: Places a Colorpicker /Eyedropper in the corner of Firefox browser.
- VideoDownloader: VideoDownloader adds a small icon on the status bar at the bottom of your Firefox window, and a toolbar button. Just click that and download the video you are watching. Download videos from Youtube, Google, Metacafe, iFilm, Dailymotion, Pornotube… and other 60+ video sites ! And all embedded objects on a webpage (movies, mp3s, flash, quicktime, etc) ! Directly.
This list will be updated every time that I stumble across an extension that I cannot do without.

I’ve had to create an extra profile, and split my extensions as FX was locking up! Can you guess I’m an extension freak?
One that I find useful that isn’t on my list is Measure It https://update.mozilla.org/firefox/539/
which allows you to draw a ruler on screen to measure in pixels - very handy if I want to check quickly the size of a graphic, and the space that I want to fit it in.
