CDEC website
I have designed, developed and maintain the careers web site(CDEC) at the University of Sussex. The website is written in PHP and makes use of MySQL & Oracle databases to dynamically display job adverts, employers’ details and other careers information.
Easy Peasy Image Gallery (EPIG)
EPIG displays an image gallery with automatically generated thumbnails for all the image files (supports JPEG, GIF and PNG files) on the current folder. You can then click on the thumbnails to see the actual images and you can navigate page-by-page or by page numbers.
List of new features included in EPIG 2: * Automatically generated thumbnails * Page-by-page navigation * Page number navigation * Three presentation styles * Custom thumbnail dimensions * Custom preview Image dimensions * Custom image quality * Display a description and/or filename for each image * Sort your gallery by filename or date in either ascending or descending order * Custom number of thumbnail rows & columns in each page * NO Database is required. Only a webserver with PHP and GD installed * Page template for easy integration with the rest of your web site.
Research Costing & Pricing Tool
This is a research grant applications system which has been developed because Universities in the UK are required by HEFCE to provide a way of calculating the full economic cost of a proposed research project. The tool calculates the full cost of the project and, from that, the bid price to sponsors.
Admission to Postgraduate Studies
My latest project is the development of the online system for admission to postgraduate courses at the University of Sussex. The system has been developed in PHP and makes use of an Oracle database.
A potential applicant needs to complete a registration form and validate an email address before proceeding. When the applicant authenticates, the system automatically re-directs to a personalised home page. This page acts as a centralised location from where all the possible actions related to programme submission process are presented. A search facility is provided for research & taught programmes.
The applicant is able to complete self-contained sub-sections of the system, save, and return to complete the remaining sections (or add further programme applications) at a later point. A document management system has been developed that allows applicants to add, view and delete documents. Moreover, documents can be associated with qualifications in support of an application. A checklist is provided that highlights any outstanding items.
Once all the outstanding items have been dealt with then the application can be submitted to the University for processing. The applicant can then monitor the progress of their application(s) by authenticating to the system.
