The licensing requirements for Windows Vista state that users are required to launch a Windows Vista Upgrade from within Windows XP. However, by doing so users invalidate the Windows XP license and the Windows Vista installation process can take place. In simple words, you cannot use your Windows XP serial ever again.

At least that is what Microsoft wants the upgrade users to do. However, a workaround exists that allows users to perform a “clean install.” The process is a bit tedious, but is not hard at all to complete:

For some time, I have been looking for a PHP database-driven image gallery. I tested both Coppermine and Gallery2 but I concluded that both of them are extremely complicated and very confusing in their use.

I ended up sticking with ZenPhoto, an excellent and lightweight piece of software that does the job with extreme elegance and simplicity. It is worth mentioning that ZenPhoto was granted an honorable mention in the Web2.0 Awards.

WordPress 2.1 has been released and apparently if you are a WP developer you will love this release. The release announcement states:

“Developers will especially love this release, as it has much cleaner code than 2.0 and includes hundreds of enhancements that will enable a new generation of richer plugins. Here’s a taste of some of the things included:

• Psuedo-cron functionality let’s you schedule events much like cron.
• Users admin can now comfortably handle hundreds of thousands of users.
• The new WP_Error class cleans up how we do error reporting and handling.
• The javascript loader makes it easier for plugins to include rich functionality.
• Tons of new hooks and APIs.
• We’ve started to fill out our code inline documentation.
• Image and thumbnail API allows for richer media plugins.
• Custom header, color picker, and image cropping framework.”

It is time for a new release of the Social Bookmarks plugin. With the release of WordPress 2.1, the way that WordPress defines a page has changed. Therefore, the code that retrieves the site pages and displays them in the plugin configuration page had to be modified.

Also, the plugin is now ‘clever enough’ to figure out whether you are running WP 2.1 or WP 2.0.x and deal with the pages accordingly.

Finally, this release introduces the facility to manually position the plugin from your theme.
